Userhub completed a Wikifunctions usability assignment for the Wikimedia Foundation, working with Bangladeshi developers to examine interface discoverability, workflow clarity, and Bangla–English localization issues.
Wikifunctions is a Wikimedia Foundation platform for creating, viewing, editing, and sharing reusable functions. The research examined whether developers in Bangladesh could understand key product workflows, including defining a function, viewing a function, and editing a function across prototype artifacts.
Userhub conducted moderated qualitative usability sessions through online video calls. Participants interacted with English and Bangla prototype materials, shared their screens, and responded to semi-structured questions during the sessions.
The study used comparative prototype testing across English and Bangla interfaces. This helped distinguish general usability issues from localization-specific comprehension issues, including how developers interpreted labels, actions, page hierarchy, implementation states, test case areas, and workflow cues.

The findings showed that participants generally understood the broad Wikifunctions workflow, but experienced friction around discoverability, interface hierarchy, terminology, and task comprehension. The research also showed that Bangla availability alone did not guarantee comprehension for developer-facing interfaces, because many participants were more familiar with English-language programming documentation, tools, and technical vocabulary.
Userhub’s recommendations focused on clearer activity grouping, stronger visibility of key actions, improved page hierarchy, more accessible descriptions and labels, and further validation of localized terminology with the Bangladeshi developer community.
