From community workshops to institutional structure
Userhub’s origins trace to early community-led UX learning and workshop-based practice in Bangladesh, before the work was formalized within a durable institutional structure.
Userhub’s origins trace to UX Saturday with Wahid (2011), a community-led initiative that convened early UX learning, discussion, and workshop-based practice in Bangladesh. The initiative created a recurring space for practical engagement with user experience, usability thinking, and human-centered approaches at a time when structured UX education was still emerging locally.
Between 2011 and 2014, these sessions expanded across universities and professional settings. Workshops and hands-on activities were hosted in collaboration with institutions including the University of Dhaka, BRAC University, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), and Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), among others.
The emphasis was applied learning: structured discussions, critique sessions, and real-world interface evaluation exercises that helped participants connect UX concepts to actual products, systems, and user needs.

How the institutional model emerged
As participation expanded, the work required more than recurring events. It needed repeatable methods, structured learning pathways, and a stable public record.

Community-led learning begins
Userhub was established to sustain this work through applied practice, professional education, and long-term preservation of outputs, eventually evolving into UX Lab, Userhub Institute, and Userhub Journal. This institutional model emerged from practical necessity: practice informed learning, and learning generated outputs that needed to be preserved over time.

University and professional collaborations helped connect discussion with hands-on practice and critique.

Institutional structure becomes necessary
As the work matured, it required continuity, documented methods, and a more durable organizational base.
