Cognitive psychology and mental processes: Memory

There are mainly two types of memory prevails in our mental processes. The first one is short term memory and other one is long term memory. Short term memory has also a different terminology which is known as “working memory”. Short time memory is a system of storing and managing the required information temporarily to carry out some specific tasks like learning or reasoning. There are different models regarding short time memory. One of the unique models regarding this topic is the “Braddely and Hitch model of working memory” which receives both the auditory and the visual stimuli and make them combined and understandable.

Long term memory can be classified into three categories. These three categories are known as procedural memory, semantic memory and episodic memory. Long term memory can be defined as a system of storing the information. It also works on some special functions like managing them and retrieving them again for the further uses.
